Who we are

SNAP East Cape is a volunteer-run animal welfare organization focused on preventing animal overpopulation through free spay and neuter services, community outreach, and education throughout the East Cape of Baja California Sur. Today, SNAP works alongside local community members, veterinary professionals, volunteers, and supporters to address animal overpopulation at its source. Our approach is simple: prevent unwanted litters, make veterinary care more accessible, and give communities the tools and support they need to create lasting change.

Our story

SNAP began in 2013 in Los Barriles, founded by a group of expats living in the area, in response to the growing need for humane, effective solutions to animal overpopulation. Since 2022, SNAP has expanded its reach beyond Los Barriles, bringing free sterilization services and prevention-focused outreach to communities throughout the East Cape. In 2026, SNAP became SNAP East Cape and welcomed a mobile clinic, creating new opportunities to reach rural and underserved communities across Baja California Sur.

How we work

SNAP East Cape’s community outreach team connects families and animal caretakers with clinic appointments, arranges transportation when possible, supports community cat TNR logistics, and leads local education and outreach efforts. Veterinary surgeries are performed by partner clinics, while program costs are covered through donor support.

    Friends of SNAP

    Donations supporting SNAP East Cape are processed through Friends of SNAP, a U.S.-based 501(c)(3) nonprofit organization. Friends of SNAP provides the charitable and financial structure through which donor support helps fund SNAP East Cape’s programs.
